5 terrifying Asteroids heading for Earth; a huge 250-foot asteroid coming today

Two dangerous asteroids, Asteroid 2022 QD1 and 2022 RX3 will pass close to the Earth this week on September 16 and 18 respectively.

If you are a space fanatic and love skygazing, you might not want to put your telescope aside for this week. At least five massive asteroids will be flying past our planet between September 15 and September 19. The US space agency NASA keeps a track of asteroids and comets making relatively close approaches to Earth. Check out the asteroids that will be approaching Earth between September 15 and 19, 2022.

Asteroid 2020 PT4

The asteroid 2020 PT4 as big as the size of an aeroplane flew by the Earth at a speed of 11 km/s at a distance of 7.19 million kilometres on September 15. The space rock detected on August 13, 2020 belongs to the Apollo group.

Asteroid 2022 QD1

The massive space rock, asteroid 2022 QD1, is as big as 250 feet wide. The asteroid will make its closest approach to Earth today and will be travelling at a speed of 30,000 kilometres per second from a distance of 4,630,000 kilometres from earth.

Asteroid 2005 RX3

Asteroid 2005 RX3, which is as big as 390-foot, will reportedly fly past Earth on September 18, at 11:52 at a distance of 2.95 million kilometres. Currently, it is 11.52 million kilometers, equivalent to 0.78 astronomical units from earth.

That’s not all, there are two more space rocks named Asteroid 2022 QB37 and 2022 QJ50 that will fly by our planet on September 18 and 19 respectively. While Asteroid 2022 QB37 will travel from a distance of 4,080,000, QB2 will fly by at 2,610,000 km distance from earth.

These asteroids are classified as Near-Earth objects. Nasa detects the orbital positions of these near-Earth objects come from the databases of the Minor Planet Center, while utmost of the asteroid-tracking data is collected by NASA-funded observatories – Pan-STARRS, the Catalina Sky Survey, NASA’s NEOWISE mission and others.
